Celiac Disease Profile

A Celiac Disease Profile is a set of blood tests used to screen for celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder where the ingestion of gluten damages the small intestine. The profile typically includes tests for specific antibodies, such as anti-tissue transglutaminase (tTG) antibodies, anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA), and deamidated gliadin peptide (DGP) antibodies. Elevated levels of these antibodies can indicate an immune response to gluten. The profile may also be complemented by a biopsy of the small intestine to assess damage to the villi, which are responsible for nutrient absorption. Early detection of celiac disease helps prevent complications like malnutrition, osteoporosis, and other autoimmune disorders, as a gluten-free diet is the primary treatment.
